unfortunately I didn't think to take "before" before photos...these are before photos after ALL the paint has been removed...but I am sure you can use your imagination...picture layers upon layers of old crackled, peeling paint.

So sorry I've been gone so long....been crazy busy!

Hubby and I are finally getting ready to paint the old weathered bungalow...

what began as a "Hey what if we do this" turned into many years of painstaking work!

Let me start from the beginning...

we have lived in our cedar shingled bungalow built in the 1920s since 1981

a few years ago it was coming around that time for a new coat of paint...

as we were surveying what needed to be done we noticed that the paint on one side of the house was not only peeling, it had a crackle finish that I would ONLY be proud of IF it was on canvas, needless to say we knew something major had to be done before we added yet another coat of paint. After many EXPENSIVE estimates...hubby spoke his later much regretted words "How about if I remove the paint with my heat gun...it won't take THAT long". What began with one side turned into the whole house...now I do need to let you know that hubby works 6 days a week, soooo... he really only had about one day a week to work on this project...we have also had some major delays along the way...family deaths...serious illnesses, etc...what began one summer has ended up taking a few years. I know we have a couple of neighbors that could do without the "weathered, rustic" look of our house and are ready to trade us in. But hang tight...because believe it our not....we are FINALLY READY to paint!!

Sometime during the next day or so, I will post some "before" photos so you can join us on our quest and hopefully you will still be here to rejoice with us while we post our "after" photos.

Wish us (me) luck...I did kind of make hubby a promise that I would do the majority of the painting since I was not able to help when he removed it all...UGH...what was I thinking??

My grandparents would be celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary today...I adore her dress and veil

My grandfather's parents on their wedding day...not sure of the date...I feel so blessed to have this photo.

I treasure these old photos of our family...I have all my photo boxes in one area and everyone has strict instructions to grab the photos in case of an emergency! I can let go of most any other material thing we have in the house...but I would be devastated if we lost our old family photos...such treasures could never be replaced!

another beautiful day...another fun lost ride

I've been attracted to abandoned things lately...don't know why.

This was actually in the middle of a neighborhood...houses and all of a sudden a small lake with this treasure.

I must say hubby is getting quite good at stopping and find a place to pull over as soon as I shout Oooooh.

fun lost ride

When our kids were young we made up a game named "fun lost ride". Piling in the car we would take turns deciding to go either straight, right or left...the fun was never knowing where we would end up or what we would discover along the way!

Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day...so hubby and I decided it was time for a fun lost ride. Along the way we discovered this abandoned farm.

As I was taking photos I could see that the barn still had equipment in it...through windows of the dilapidated house you could still see traces of furniture left behind.

I wondered what would make a family leave a farm with equipment still in barns and cars throughout the property.

I adore these original blue shutters

As well as, this wonder little shed

We may never know why this farm was abandoned...but we surely went home feeling as if we had a very successful "fun lost ride"

I actually enjoy rainy days. They give you the perfect excuse to....

....stay in bed

...work on an art project

...do some organizing

...or play with photo editing, like I just did!

It's been a crazy winter here...loads of snow, ice and cold! I am sitting here...

longing for breezes blowing through open windows

the return of leaves on trees

flower poking their heads through warm soil

eagerly anticipating the return of outdoor flea markets,

weekend barn sales and discovering "treasures"

Until then...

I have been busy sorting through my basement treasures...getting ready to list new items on
Ebay and Etsy.

After all I do have to make room for new treasures, right??
